THE SENIOR VETERINARIAN WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

A compassionate and experienced Senior Veterinarian to lead animal care initiatives at the Brownsville Animal Shelter. This role is critical in ensuring the health and welfare of animals, providing expert medical care, and creating a more humane and efficient shelter operation. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, advanced veterinary skills, and a passion for making a meaningful impact on the community.

As Senior Veterinarian, you will oversee all aspects of medical care for shelter animals, from pre-adoption exams to administering vaccinations and implementing parasite control measures. Your responsibilities will include diagnosing and treating sick or injured animals, performing surgical procedures, and managing disease mitigation strategies to maintain a healthy shelter environment. You will also help establish and refine standard operating procedures, ensuring the shelter operates efficiently and effectively to meet its goals.

Senior Veterinarian

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: D.V.M. (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) or V.M.D. (Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris).
  • Licensure: Licensed as a Veterinarian by the State of Texas and holds a DEA Controlled Substance Registration Certificate.
  • Experience: At least five years of veterinary experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in shelter medicine, disease mitigation strategies, and public health initiatives.
  • Leadership and mentoring experience, particularly in supervising veterinary technicians and students.
  • Familiarity with creating or improving standard operating procedures for animal care operations.

Veterinarian

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: D.V.M. (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) or V.M.D. (Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris).
  • Licensure: Licensed as a Veterinarian by the State of Texas and holds a DEA Controlled Substance Registration Certificate.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for public education and collaboration with veterinary staff.
