Now Hiring: Visit McKinney Executive Director
The City of McKinney, Texas is seeking an experienced destination marketing leader to serve as the next Executive Director of Visit McKinney.
This is a high-profile opportunity to lead the City’s convention and visitors bureau during a period of continued growth, major tourism development, and expanding regional visibility.
Visit McKinney is the official destination marketing organization for the City of McKinney. The Executive Director works closely with the City Manager, the Visit McKinney Board, staff, hospitality partners, event organizers, and community stakeholders to promote McKinney as a destination for leisure travel, meetings, sports, events, and entertainment.
A Strong Organization With Momentum
The next Executive Director will step into an organization that is already performing well.
Visit McKinney has built a strong team and established productive relationships throughout the community. The organization plays a key role in attracting events, supporting local hospitality businesses, promoting McKinney to visitors, and helping generate hotel stays and economic activity.
This is not a turnaround assignment.
City leadership is looking for someone who can preserve the momentum already in place while bringing new ideas, energy, and creativity to the role.
The position reports directly to the McKinney City Manager while also working closely with the Visit McKinney Board and other City departments.
A Leadership Role Built on Relationships
Success in this position will depend heavily on relationships.
The Executive Director will be expected to work closely with hotels, restaurants, event organizers, tourism partners, City departments, regional organizations, and other destination marketing professionals across North Texas.
The role is not designed for someone who wants to lead from behind a desk.
The next Executive Director will need to be visible in the community, active in the tourism industry, and comfortable representing McKinney with partners at the local, regional, and national levels.
A Small Team With a Big Mission
Visit McKinney operates with a relatively lean team responsible for marketing, sales, visitor services, digital outreach, and retail operations.
That means the Executive Director must be both a strategic leader and a hands-on contributor.
City and board leaders are looking for someone who can empower staff, develop talent, encourage creativity, and help the team continue building on its current success.
The ideal candidate will be able to lead people, manage priorities, build partnerships, and still roll up their sleeves when the work requires it.
Major Tourism Opportunities Ahead
The timing of this recruitment makes the opportunity particularly significant.
McKinney has several major projects and developments on the horizon that could reshape the city’s tourism and hospitality landscape.
Among the opportunities discussed during the PositionCast are:
A new approximately 20,000-seat amphitheater
Cannon Beach, a large surf and lagoon development
New hotel and meeting space
Expanded sports and event opportunities
Passenger air service from McKinney National Airport
Continued population and economic growth across Collin County
The next Executive Director will help position Visit McKinney to take advantage of these developments before they fully come online.
That means building relationships, developing sales strategies, expanding destination awareness, and making sure McKinney is ready to compete for visitors, meetings, events, and tourism activity.
What McKinney Is Looking For
The City is seeking a destination marketing professional with a strong sales mindset and a creative approach to leadership.
The ideal candidate will understand how tourism marketing translates into measurable outcomes such as hotel stays, events, partnerships, visitor activity, and economic impact.
Leadership ability is equally important.
McKinney is a high-performance organization that places a strong emphasis on culture, empowerment, collaboration, and servant leadership.
The City’s RISE values are:
