A community with history and room to grow

Anahuac sits where Lake Anahuac meets Trinity Bay, about 50 miles east of downtown Houston. The seat of Chambers County, this community of 1,980 residents at the 2020 Census offers fishing, boating, birdwatching and access to the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge.

Known as the Alligator Capital of Texas, Anahuac hosts Texas Gatorfest at Fort Anahuac Park. Its history reaches back to the Anahuac Disturbances of 1832 and 1835, which helped set the stage for the Texas Revolution. Today, potential new subdivisions, parks and public spaces, and development of a comprehensive plan give the next City Administrator a direct role in shaping the community’s future.
